Alston Wilkes Society Earns Reaccreditation Through 2030

The Alston Wilkes Society (AWS) has once again earned reaccreditation from the Council on Accreditation (COA), extending its accreditation through April 30, 2030. This achievement affirms AWS’s commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality services and being a trusted steward of the resources entrusted to its care.

COA accreditation involves a rigorous review against nationally recognized standards for governance, financial management, service delivery, human resources, risk management, and continuous quality improvement. For the individuals and families AWS serves, as well as its donors and community partners, reaccreditation provides assurance that the organization meets high standards of care and accountability.

The final accreditation report highlighted AWS’s strong financial stewardship, comprehensive quality improvement practices, and robust risk management systems. Reviewers also recognized investments in technology, infrastructure, and staff development, along with the dedication of the Board of Directors and its strong partnership with organizational leadership.

At the heart of the review was recognition of the people behind AWS’s mission. Reviewers praised employees’ professionalism, compassion, and commitment, noting the organization’s trauma-informed, person-centered approach. This approach recognizes each person’s experiences, strengths, and needs while supporting a path toward greater stability and independence.

The report also acknowledged the meaningful impact of AWS programs across South Carolina. Through its work with at-risk youth, veterans, and individuals rebuilding their lives after incarceration, AWS offers practical support and hope for a brighter future.

As part of its commitment to continuous improvement, AWS will incorporate two minor recommendations related to program planning and evaluation into its ongoing quality improvement efforts.

Reaccreditation reflects the dedication of AWS employees, leadership, and board members, alongside the generosity and partnership of the wider community. Together, these efforts help AWS fulfill its mission of rebuilding lives for a stronger community.
